InternshipsGuide for Erasmus+ coordinators · BragaMob, Braga, Portugal

How do Erasmus+ VET internships work in Portugal?

Your school applies for an Erasmus+ KA1 grant; a supporting organisation in Portugal such as BragaMob proposes host companies, houses the group and coordinates the documents of the mobility. In Braga, internships run 6 hours a day, Monday to Friday (30 hours a week), with a company tutor, from 10 days to 1 year.

Direct answer: the sending school holds the Erasmus+ grant and chooses its partners in Portugal. In an internship, the host organisation is the company. BragaMob, based in Braga, is a supporting organisation: we propose a host company in each student's field and your school confirms it; we arrange accommodation, meals and transport, follow the placement with a company tutor and a mobility coordinator, and coordinate the documents of the mobility in Braga.

Who does what

  • The sending school applies for the Erasmus+ KA1 grant, writes the reports, selects the participants, decides on the host companies, signs the agreements and runs a preparation session on Portugal before travel.
  • The host company is the host organisation: it assigns a company tutor who guides the daily work and assesses the participant on the last day.
  • BragaMob, the supporting organisation, designs the programme, proposes host companies among 800+ partners in the Braga region, organises housing, meals, transfers and, if the school chooses them, cultural integration activities, coordinates the Learning Agreement and the Europass Mobility with the company, and issues the Certificate of Attendance and the Final Report of the mobility in Braga.

How the placement runs

  • 6 hours a day, Monday to Friday (30 hours a week). The working language is English; participants pick up basic Portuguese during the stay.
  • The method is practical: real cases from the company, simulations and hands-on work with its equipment, starting with the company culture and moving on to more complex tasks with more responsibility.
  • A BragaMob coordinator holds short daily meetings after work, a weekly group meeting and visits to the companies to talk with the tutors.
  • Cultural integration activities take place at the weekend, without interrupting the placement.

The six steps

  1. Preparation: we propose the programme and a host company for each participant, and your school confirms them; the service agreement and the Learning Agreement are signed; preparation session at the sending school.
  2. Arrival: airport transfer, check-in, orientation meeting and tour of Braga.
  3. Internship: 6 hours a day with a company tutor, followed by the BragaMob coordinator.
  4. Cultural integration: optional weekend visits to Braga, Guimarães, Porto, Viana do Castelo, Lisbon and Fátima.
  5. Assessment: theoretical and practical assessment by the company tutor on the last day.
  6. Certification: Europass Mobility, issued by your school with the signatures coordinated by us; Certificate of Attendance issued by BragaMob; Final Report of the mobility in Braga. Your school decides how the results are recognised.
